Frequently Asked Questions About Epoxy

Where Can I Buy Your Epoxy?

We sell all of our epoxy products right here on the website under Shop Now up at the top. You can also find a map of WiseBond® dealers on our locator page.
Yes, all of our epoxies cure to a crystal-clear finish. We also sell a line of WiseColor powdered colorants and WiseGlow glow in the dark colorants to add tint to our DEEP Pour epoxy.
WiseBond® Epoxies are 100% solids and VOC-Free. Once epoxy is mixed properly according to the instructions and fully cured for 30 days, it is an inert plastic. It is not antimicrobial. Epoxy is not safe to ingest (liquid or cured). Do not cut on or prepare raw food on epoxy surfaces.

SAFETY: Products "WiseBond® Deep Pour 2” Epoxy: Part A and B, and WiseBond® Bar & Table Top Epoxy: Part A and B", are resinous polymeric coatings. These resinous polymeric coatings have been tested by an independent Testing, Inspection and Certification laboratory for conformity to Food and Drug Administration (FDA) standards as required by USFDA 21 CFR 175.300 Condition E from Table 2. Tested epoxy passed the CFR extraction testing under the conditions of use that were requested. The products were found to be in compliance with the US Food and Drug Administration regulation, 21 CFR 175.300, Condition E, for surfaces in contact with food at room temperature. Other conditions of use or variations in application of the resin for the specific application would potentially require follow up testing.

NOTE: The above statement refers to “clear” epoxy only. Adding any type of colorant to either epoxy, alters the epoxy formula and it will no longer conform to the USFDA 21 CFR 175.300 tested results.

You may email info@wisebond.com for additional full information and testing.

Let epoxy cure for 24 hours (dry to touch) before adding additional layers over the first pour. NOTE: If longer than 24 hours have elapsed between pours, scuff hardened epoxy surface with 320 grit sand paper to ensure adhesion between epoxy layers.
Our DEEP Pour epoxy, can be poured in single layers up to 2" thick. Pouring more than 2¨ thick may increase the risks of drying defects. If more than 2¨ of depth is needed, allow the product to dry for 24 hours before pouring consecutive layers of desired thickness. Our Bar & Table Top epoxy self-levels to 1/8" thick. Any thicker should be in multiple 1/8th inch layers.
Thick pour epoxy cures slowly (72 hours) so it will not crack or shrink. Although mixing errors are the most common cause of epoxy not curring correctly. Click here to learn about proper mixing.

Our recommended pouring temp is between 77-85 degrees.
WiseBond Deep Pour epoxy is one of the few thick casting epoxy brands on the market that completely self releases bubbles during the exothermic reaction and cure. Vacuum chambers can also be used to evacuate bubbles if desired.
YES, always! For a stress free project, seal all wood slab live edges and top surfaces to prevent air off gassing bubbles. Even concrete surfaces can hold air in its pores. Any objects to be covered with resin should also be coated with a light layer of epoxy resin. This is called wetting the surface.

One to two seal coats form an air-tight seal over your material/substrate. This seal coat should be a thin, light layer applied with a brush, spreader or foam roller. WiseBond® Quick Set Epoxy or our Bar & Table Top epoxy are perfect for the seal coat. More than one seal coat maybe needed depending on the porosity of the substrate. If your project surface absorbs the first coat, add another when the first is dry-to-the-touch.
There is no epoxy on the market that is burn or heat resistant. While an epoxy surface will withstand incidental heat in normal, everyday use (Tested to 120F), it is inadvisable to expose the surface to extremely hot or prolonged direct heat from pots and pans, etc. Contact such as hot pans or utensils can and will discolor, warp or burn your epoxy surface. ALWAYS use hot pads!
No, epoxy is not fireproof. It can and will catch fire from a direct flame if and when it reaches its flash point. Always know and understand your epoxy’s SDS sheet.
Our epoxies will cure to a glossy, glass-like finish. If you desire a matte finish, you may sand the cured epoxy with 3000-grit sandpaper to remove the gloss. Then, a polyurethane or polyaspartic top coat may be rolled on to create a matte finish.
Absolutely! Our powdered pigments blend flawlessly with both types of WiseBond® epoxy to produce a wide variety of color effects. You can also mix our resins with other brands of pigments, inks, and dyes.

We have over 70 powdered pigments available, which may be mixed together to make other beautiful color effects.

Glow-in-the-dark powdered pigments add incredible special effects to castings and Lichtenberg wood burnt surfaces. Choose from 9 unique colors variants.

We also have liquid alcohol pigments for transparent tinted epoxy and solid opaque gels for a solid color.

NOTE: Due to the many variables involved in epoxy mixing and pouring, it is difficult to predict how a final, cured epoxy will look when mixed with colorant. Each of our powdered colorants offer an image of the raw powder and an image showing the powder mixed and cured with epoxy. We highly recommend doing a test pour to see how your particular project will turn out. Do not use acrylic paints.

Our epoxy formula has the highest amount of UV inhibitors possible but no epoxy can withstand exposure to prolonged, direct sunlight without yellowing. Always take precautions to protect your epoxy table by covering it if it is outside.
Check our instructions link, Blog and videos in the top menu of our site. We have detailed instructions for using both DEEP Pour epoxy and Bar & Table Top epoxy.

All epoxy resin and hardener products differ in weight for Part A and Part B because of their viscosity and make-up. The correct and precise way to measure epoxy is always by volume.

Plastic mixing cups and containers with printed measurements will help with accuracy. Check out our line of epoxy tools and accessories. These are available at your local hardware store and paint stores as well.
All epoxy resins should be stored in a temperature controlled environment, away from direct sunlight, in sealed containers and in their original shipping box if possible. If an epoxy container has been opened and has possibly been stored for more than 1 year, do a small test pour first.

Epoxy resin and hardeners stored in temps over 90°F or below 50°F will most likely need to be thrown away after 6 months.
No, we don't offer samples. This is because a small amount of our epoxy wouldn't give you an accurate indication of how well it would work on a project. Epoxy curing times and strength is highly dependent on the overall amount of epoxy you're using. We stand behind our product 100% and we are happy to answer any questions about our epoxy and it's suitability for your project.
