In particular, this penetrating epoxy sealer is ideal for sealing live edges of wood. Its distinct viscosity enables deep penetration of wood fibers, avoiding the formation of air bubbles when used with flood coat or casting epoxy systems. This ensures airtight coverage and protection from potential damage or degradation.
Quick Set resin is not only suitable for epoxy wood tables and wood slab resin applications, but also for commercial and industrial settings, such as restaurant bar and countertop repair, live edge sealing, wood and metal bonding. With its fast-setting formula, you can quickly and easily seal any porous surface, achieving a strong and long-lasting bond.
Formulated from the same raw materials as our other epoxy resins for wood and surfaces, it matches seamlessly and bonds flawlessly. This wood resin product is made to produce a strong, durable, and long-lasting bond on porous surfaces, cracks, filling wood knots, and sealing live edge slabs.
As a fast cure resin, it has anti-yellowing properties, strong adhesion, and is formulated for a fast gel time. The low color and low viscosity allow for bubble free, crystal-clear repairs ideal for art and hobby applications as well!
With WiseBond® Quick Set, you can be confident that your live edge wood slabs and surfaces will maintain their natural beauty for years to come.CAUTION! Only mix as much as needed in small batches. This quick setting epoxy has a very short pot life and unused epoxy will begin to overheat within 10-12 minutes when left in mixing containers. Do not allow extra unused epoxy to sit! Pour all unused epoxy onto a scrap piece of wood or piece of cardboard in a thin layer to prevent overheating.
NOTE: WiseBond® Epoxies are VOC-Free. WiseBond® des not have an FDA approval certifying direct, long-term contact with food. It is not antimicrobial. Epoxy is not safe to ingest (liquid or cured). Do not cut on or prepare raw food on epoxy surfaces. Food or beverages should be kept away while it is in a liquid pre-cured state. It is NOT to be eaten, drank or consumed in any manner in either liquid or cured form.
Epoxy in its “clear cured form” is considered safe for incidental food contact in accordance with the FDA CFR Title 21 Sec. 175.300 Resinous and Polymeric Coatings.
Once epoxy is fully cured for 30 days, it is an inert plastic and should be fine for incidental exposure to food if all mixing instructions and directions have been followed as stated on the label and online.
NOTE: By the incorporation of colorants or objects, this may alter the epoxy’s safety, non-toxicity, and non-flammability which may compromise any safety designation. When in doubt, add a thin layer of “clear” epoxy as a final coating to encapsulate the underlying epoxy in question.
Epoxy can and will melt when exposed to a flame and can catch fire. Always keep away from heat and open flames. When exposed to higher temperatures, a maximum of 120F (50C) should be adhered to at all times.
INSTRUCTIONSWarning: Short pot life, DO NOT mix more than needed at a time or risk overheating if left in mass too long. This 1:1 ratio kit includes 1 pint of A Resin and 1 pint of B Hardener of our fast setting wood epoxy. It has a 10-12 minute pot life and approximately a 15 minute work time. The pot life time will be shortened in warmer environments and lengthened in cooler environments. Don’t dilly-dally!
For the best results: We recommend applying 2-3 coats with a brush or roller depending on the application. Let harden 2-3 hours before sanding cracks and voids. Porous substrates may need additional applications.
Surface Prep: All wood surfaces must be clean and free of oil or dust before applying. Remove any grease or oil with acetone. A wire brush may be helpful to clean live-edge crevasses and wood grain.
Mixing: Before using the Epoxy Sealer Quick Set, it’s imperative to mix Parts A and B in the precise 1:1 ratio. Pour and combine exactly 1 part of A with 1 part of B by volume in a clear container with measurements printed on the outside. Mix for 3 minutes with a mixing stick. Mix evenly while scraping the edges and bottom of your container. Try not to whip too much air into the mixture.
Application: After mixing, pour or brush the resin on the live edge and immediately brush until complete application. For flat surfaces, the WiseBond® Epoxy Spreader works exceptionally well!
Brush on live-edges with a small brush similar to a glue brush. (Do not use a foam brush as it may introduce small air bubbles during application.) Brush on a thin coat and repeat 2-3 more times depending on porosity of the wood or surface material. Allow to preferably cure tacky before applying additional seal coats. Let dry for 1 to 1-1/2 hours – hard to the touch - before pouring our WiseBond® Deep Pour epoxy. A fan or a heat gun may be used to speed up the dry time, if necessary.
Do not add any extra solvents or agents to the mixture to try and encourage a quicker cure. Quick Set Seal epoxy is not designed to accept these and you will end up with an epoxy resin that may not cure at all.
