How To Apply WiseBond® Garage Floor Flake Chips.

  1. While the epoxy base coat is still wet, broadcast the flakes onto the epoxy. Wearing spiked shoes, broadcast the flakes evenly by tossing/flicking them in the air and letting them shower down on the wet epoxy floor. Toss the flakes by hand upward in the air so that they float down to the wet base coat. (Think of a throw/flick motion like tossing chicken feed.)
  2. Broadcast sufficient flakes for 100% coverage; completely cover the epoxy surface. If the floor has low spots where the base coat is deeper, flakes may “sink.” Broadcast sufficient flakes to completely saturate the low spot.
  3. Remove Excess Flakes: Once cured, (usually 8-10 hours later) use a trowel or wide floor scraper to knock down sharp flake edges or vertical flake chips. Sweep with a stiff broom and vacuum all excess flakes off the floor - only after it is cured dry.

REQUIRED TOOLS AND SUPPLIES

The following is a list of tools and supplies that you will need. If you are purchasing a garage floor epoxy kit from an online vendor, some of these tools and supplies may be included with the kit.

We also included optional tools such as 18" rollers. They are not mandatory, but the wider rollers make the application process go much quicker. We highly recommend these if you are covering areas larger than 500 sq. ft.

  • 10" drywall taping knife (for heavy color flaked floors) -Home Depot, Lowes, etc.
  • Heavy duty painters' tape -Home Depot, Lowes, etc.
  • Cheap plastic drop cloths -Home Depot, Lowes, etc.
  • Spiked shoes for full color flake floors (1 pair for each installer) -Amazon

Why Spiked Shoes? Spiked shoes allow you to walk out onto the coating during installation and for tossing the color flakes. We recommend a pair for each installer.
